Mim Smallman

Mim Smallman's work is inspired by the colour and chaos she observes in the sprawling garden of exotic and rare botanicals she has made in the Mornington Peninsula, surrounded by the vineyard she planted and by local Peninsula landscapes.

She paints in oils and watercolours, looking for the moment when a composition can be found among the chaos, catching the light that animates it. Her commissioned works include portraits, still life, and abstract paintings. She has been a painter all her life, and has studied its techniques at university and in studios in Australia and overseas.
